With current high house prices and not many benefits for first time buyers, the family wanted a Granny Annexe to be built in their back garden so that their teenage daughter could live independently.
First Home, Planning, Annexe Cambridgeshire
Project – Cambridgeshire
Due to current high house prices and large deposits required for mortgages these days, the family thought it’d be an excellent idea to build a Granny Annexe in their garden, so that their teenage daughter could live independently within it. The occupant is also a budding artist, so the Granny Annexe doubled up as a art studio for her as well.
The family wanted the Granny Annexe to look modern and fit into its natural surroundings, so they chose Western Red Cedar timber cladding for the outside of the garden building. As the L-shaped Granny Annexe would also have a separate room as an artists studio, high ceilings and light are important for this area. To meet these requirements, we suggested a pitched roof, gable end glazing and floor to ceiling windows. As well as an art studio, the annex has a double bedroom, fitted bathroom with a double shower, fitted kitchen and lounge area.
As standard, our Granny Annexe’s come with pendant lighting and chrome spot lights, and is decorated in matt white emulsion and white gloss skirting boards. Our standard fitted kitchens have Black Stone satin laminate work tops and white cupboard doors, and chrome accessories and stainless steel fronted appliances.
